AltDentifier

A Tellter project

AltDentifier was once the most well-known Discord verification bot, helping servers verify members using social media accounts such as Twitter, Reddit, and PlayStation. While it also provided alt-detection features, its approach was fundamentally different from Double Counter, which relied on pure data-driven detection rather than social connections.

Over time, social verification became less effective, and third-party APIs restricted access, making AltDentifier harder to maintain. Meanwhile, Double Counter evolved into the leading anti-alt solution, offering faster, more accurate, and fully automated detection. To consolidate efforts and provide a single, more powerful verification solution, AltDentifier was merged into Double Counter on March 31, 2024.

Preliminary Design and Idea

AltDentifier, originally developed by Auxim, was initially designed to be a social-based verification system, allowing users to connect external accounts (e.g., Twitter, PlayStation, Reddit) to prove their identity. While this method provided some security benefits, it lacked true accuracy in detecting alt accounts. Malicious users could still bypass verification by linking inactive but old accounts.

Unlike Double Counter, which focused on data analysis and advanced fingerprinting, AltDentifier prioritized a more community-driven approach, even offering chat moderation tools alongside its verification features. However, over time, these tools became redundant, especially as Discord’s own moderation features improved.

The Challenge

As Discord security needs evolved, several issues emerged with AltDentifier:

  • Decreasing effectiveness: Social verification alone wasn’t enough to detect alts accurately.
  • API restrictions: Platforms like Twitter and Reddit limited access to their APIs, making maintenance more difficult.
  • Scalability issues: AltDentifier’s infrastructure was outdated and couldn’t match Double Counter’s efficiency.
  • Lack of monetization: The business model was weak, with no strong premium offering or long-term roadmap.
  • Redundant features: With both AltDentifier and Double Counter existing, Tellter needed to focus on one product instead of maintaining two similar but less efficient systems.

Rather than continue supporting a declining product, the logical step was to merge AltDentifier into Double Counter and offer all users a stronger, more scalable solution.

What We’ve Done

To ensure a smooth transition, Tellter implemented the following:

The Result

📈 500,000+ servers now rely on Double Counter for alt detection and verification.
🚀 Stronger monetization model, ensuring continued development and better support.
🔒 More accurate security: Moving away from social verification made alt detection far more effective.
💡 Clearer focus: Instead of maintaining two overlapping bots, Tellter now invests entirely in Double Counter, making it the best verification tool on Discord.

The merger was a turning point—not the end of AltDentifier, but its evolution into a stronger, data-driven system that serves the modern needs of Discord security.

AltDentifier was a pioneering verification tool, but as the Discord security landscape changed, it became clear that a more advanced, data-centric approach was needed. By merging it into Double Counter, Tellter ensured that all users received a superior, more scalable, and better-supported product.

Today, Double Counter stands as the leading alt-account detection solution, benefiting from the lessons learned from AltDentifier’s legacy while pushing the boundaries of modern Discord security.
